54th State Primary School of Heraklion city

Ελληνικά

One of the oldest public schools in the city of Heraklion is 54th Primary School. As situated in this Cretan Major city, which is going to host some of the Olympic Games in 2004, it is preparing pupils for the forthcoming event through environmental education programs.

A truly historic building, which used to house the Teaching Training College in the past, welcomes daily 150 pupils aged from 6 to 12. Furthermore, the school employs nine teachers, an English teacher, one computers teacher, three gymnastics instructors, one music teacher and finally an Art instructor. Consequently the building itself due to its long – lasting existence, best supports the program which aims at the cultivation / promotion of sustained development.

All the students as well as their parents have encouraged the realization of such programs. Children, who come from an urban environment, are given the opportunity to be close to nature and learn about it. Inv this way, joining the program proves to be both instructive and pleasant; an unforgettable education experience!

Our students have successfully joined similar programs in the past while they reached a peak by presenting a program entitled “Renewable sources of energy”, with the valuable cooperation of the Energy Centre of Crete, in Brussels last year.

In addition to the environmental education program students also work on health education programs always under umbrella of sustained development.
